BARTER

Life has meaning only if one barters it day by day for something other than itself.

MILLION MILES AWAY

I am out of town for work. One overnight. Got an email from Madigan:

Maddy:

Hi Mommy!
How are you?
When are you getting home?

I miss you.
Me:
I am well! how are you? I am looking froward to smooching your face in a little while!
I think I'll be home after your bedtime. I'm missing you like crazy.

xoxo -

Maddy:
I love you.

I'll be home in a little while. And I will be loved.

COMING UP ROSES

Ruben is having a root canal tomorrow. We have excellent dental coverage.

My dryer is broken and I need a new one. Ruben hung a line on the back deck and the sun and wind have dried my clothes for the past few weeks.

I need to buy a new car. Said car is running fairly well right now and I may be able to wait until after the root canal and dryer purchase.

The economy is in a slump. From this comes a collective appreciation for less expensive and more meaningful exchanges.

I can't lose for trying around here.

LONGING

If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.
